🩺The Renal Society of Zambia welcomes the Government’s announcement of the establishment of a US$2 billion Medical City in Lusaka, which will include a National Renal Transplant and Kidney Disease Centre.

Minister of Health, Professor Roma Chilengi, said the development is intended to help reverse the longstanding trend of Zambians travelling abroad for complex medical treatment.

He said:“The Medical City will reverse that flow, keeping our patients at home and drawing patients from across the region.”

The proposed Medical City represents an important step towards strengthening specialised healthcare, developing local expertise and expanding access to advanced renal and transplant services in Zambia.

In this video, Dr Justor Banda, Chairperson of the Renal Society of Zambia, Nephrologist and Senior Medical Superintendent at Ndola Teaching Hospital, shares the Society’s perspective on what this development could mean for kidney transplantation, renal services and patients living with kidney disease in Zambia.
